Jim and I started our lives together in the midst of 9/11 and the wars that followed. Almost 24 years later, one might think the days of never ending US war in the Middle East might be behind us. Alas, we are not there yet. The US has been almost continuously involved in declared war or undeclared military action somewhere in the world since I was born 50 years ago. I have no words in response to that realization, but my heart cries out in lamentation over lost lives and injured bodies and souls.
I feel powerless today to do anything other than pray. I pray that we find another way forward from here, and remember Jesus’ wise teaching: “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.”
